Friedemann Katt was born in 1945 in Mittelwalde in Silesia and grew up in Mauterndorf in Lungau. The son of musical parents had a formative musical education already in his childhood. After his studies of composition in Vienna, Katt worked as organist and music teacher. Since 1989 he has been working mainly as a composer.
Dr. Clemens Hellsberg, longtime chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic, is not only a friend of Friedemann Katt and an admirer of Franz Xaver Frenzel, but also a dedicatee of one his works. The violin concerto in A major, called also as Hellsberg concert, impresses not only with its extraordinary connection of depth with musical ease. His symphonic poem "De Rerum Natura - On the Nature of Things", which deals with the development of human life, is also worth mentioning.
